Eurostar growth

New ‘e320’ trains to enter service at the end of 2015

Eurostar has reported that the number of passengers using its service grew by 3% in 2014.

A total of 10.4 million people travelled with the cross-channel operator, helping increase sales revenues by 1% to £867 million. In particular Eurostar says that the economic recovery boosted business travel, which grew by 4% over the year. The company also reported an increase in operating profit of 2% to £55.0 million.

2014 also saw the unveiling of the company’s new e320 trains, being built by Siemens, which Eurostar says will boost capacity by 20%. Chief executive Nicolas Petrovic said: ‘Our new e320 trains are now in the final months of testing and on schedule to come into commercial service at the end of this year.’

This year will also see the introduction of a new all year-round direct service from London to the south of France, stopping at Lyon, Avignon and Marseille. This will be launched on 1 May.
