Organisers of the Modern Railways RVE show have announced that the event’s popular Meet The Buyer sessions will now be run as a joint venture between the Department for International Trade (DIT), Rail Forum Midlands (RFM) and The Railway Industry Association (RIA).
In an expansion of the DIT initiative run at RVE since 2016, the new partnership offers a chance to include UK buyers in the mix for the first time.
It will be orchestrated by the Rail Forum Midlands team working in partnership with RIA and the Department for International Trade.
Elaine Clark, Rail Forum General Manager, said: ‘We are delighted that Key Publishing has asked us to develop plans to bring the popular “Meet The Buyer” back to RVE this October. We know how much suppliers valued the opportunities at last year’s event and we are keen to build on these further. Working in partnership with our colleagues in RIA also demonstrates the commitment of our two organisations to work together for the benefit of our combined membership. Following discussions with the Department for International Trade (DIT) we felt that to replicate last year’s very internationally focussed event would be difficult so soon after Innotrans in Berlin; consequently, we will be focussing more on UK buyers. We are keen to maintain an international dimension, however, and we are in discussions with a number of key stakeholders about the best way to do this.’
David Clarke, Technical Director, RIA said: ‘RIA and RFM working together at RVE provides a perfect opportunity for our two organisations to put into practice our joint commitment to working together for the benefit of the supply chain and our members. We will be working closely with RFM to ensure we deliver a great event for everyone – buyers and suppliers alike.’
Ian Harrison, Head of Exports – Midlands Region for the Department for International Trade explained the ongoing commitment to the Rail Sector saying that ‘RVE is becoming one of the flagship ev
ents in the Midlands, which coupled with our Midlands Engine Specialist Andrew Scott-Green shows we are determined to help companies realise their potential in overseas markets.’
ed that all the major OEMs currently active in the UK have been invited to take part alongside ROSCos, franchise bidders, major tier one suppliers and TfL. They are also encouraging a number of the regional metros to get involved. Suppliers will shortly be able to apply to take part with a similar process to last year being implemented. Further information will be available via the RVE, RIA and RFM websites in the next few weeks or by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org
Event manager, Roger Mortimer said: ‘A few people had questioned what would happen with the Meet the Buyer sessions following Catherine Appleby leaving the DIT late last year as she had been instrumental in the initiative. However, DIT were keen to continue the programme and following a meeting with Elaine Clark, General Manager of Rail Forum Midlands, it has been decided that RFM will orchestrate the event working closely with the DIT and RIA.
‘With this being an “InnoTrans year” it was also felt that the event would benefit from the introduction of UK buyers to what has been primarily an overseas-focussed event. It is expected that the balance of the buying panel will adapt to reflect “InnoTrans years” and non-InnoTrans years.’
The Meet The Buyer programme offers exhibitors at the Modern Railways RVE Show the chance to pitch their products and services direct to some of the most influential buyers in the rail world.
All exhibitors will be offered the chance to put written applications in front of the buyers with those selected being offered meetings during this year’s Modern Railways RVE event.
Modern Railways RVE brings together organisations involved with all aspects of rail vehicle manufacture, refurbishment, enhancement and maintenance. This is the sixth year of the event and it takes place on 4 October at the Derby Velodrome. Full details of the show can be found at www.rve-expo.co.uk and companies interested in exhibiting at the event should contact David Lane at email@example.com.
